About the Book
A fairytale of two characters reflecting off each other to find out who they really are. It is a fresh twist on an ancient story of interconnection via a journey above and below the surface.
Through a mix of prose, poetry, and illustration the authors draw us into reaches of their own mythical landscape.
“I love that so much of this is about archetypes and the sorts of things that shape our minds in childhood and our first great loves... So much breath and rain!”
- Award winning Poet, W. B. Keckler

Notable Reviews
Small Press Bookwatch, Reviewer’s Choice
“A lyrically poetic literary experience that is both visual and cognitive, "Above The Surface" is one of those volumes of illustrated verse and commentary that will linger in the mind and memory long after the slender volume is finished and set back upon the shelf. While very highly recommended, especially for community and academic library collections, it should be noted for personal reading lists that "Above The Surface" is also available in a digital book format (Kindle, $9.99).”

What I love so much about “Above the Surface” is that it is as if the authors have written a poem you can crawl into and curl around. It is an illustrated parable, whose colorful artworks are like a beautiful, comforting quilt. This book is an ancient mirror in which you get to see yourself as if you were kaleidoscopic. The book is dreamy, reflective, and full of surprises.
I’ll give you a hint of this book’s magic, okay?! This line: “One day she received a package from the moon.”
If you're someone who wants it all spelled out for you, A to Z, in a been-there-done-that kinda way, this book might not be for you. (There's no ho-hum here!)
But if you long for something fantastical and outta-the-box, it's for you.
Listen, this book won’t be the same for you as it was for me. You’ll find your own pathways and your own wide skies in it. But I suspect what all of us readers have in common is that feeling of being transported. Get your seatbelt on and enjoy the adventure!
